Who are the Spazmatics you ask? Well they are “All the awesome sounds, styles, and way cool dance steps from the 1980′s decade we’d love to forget. Complete with skinny ties, Brill Creamed hair, and horn-rimmed glasses, The Spazmatics recapture all the best of the worst.” –Visit Pasadena. Professor Stigwood formed The Spazmatics with the electronics teacher Sydney Balderman (known for his invention of “robot drums”). Most of the music could be generated by computers, so the team only needed a couple of decent musicians to complete The Spazmatics. Stigwood brought in his special needs brother Curtis to play the bass, and teacher’s assistant Rusty A. Woosmeir to play the guitar. Their first show started out with “members of the hip elite heckling them with jibes of “geek” and “nerd,” while everyone else howled with laughter. But once they broke into the opening salvo of “Science,” the nonbelievers were stunned by the group’s authenticity of production, world class musicianship, and tight choreography. When it was all over, the crowd rose in a standing ovation, and The Spazmatics were born” -The Spazmatics. Since their first show the Spazmatics have been touring around the US. Our team was lucky enough to see the them play at The Pasadena Civic Auditorium Plaza last weekend. The whole plaza was filled with people enjoying the show. Here’s some pictures from the show:
