Team members Mayra Villa and Ariana Javaheri attended the Carnegie observatories 2015 lecture series at the Noise Within theater last month. The lecture was given by the president of the Carnegie institute for science, Dr. Matthew P. Scott, about ‘the genes that built you’. In his lecture, he explained how the half-billion-year-old genes have been gradually modified to give rise to the vast diversity of animals, with evolution some animals became really fast, this ones are the fastest! From ancient single-celled organisms evolved the multicellular animals we know today. Mayra and Ariana learned a lot about how our genes change over thousands of years to accommodate changes in the environment we live in.
