Subway to the Sea
Los Angeles is a dynamic city with much to offer, home to thrilling nightlife, bountiful farmer’s markets, and beautiful architecture. It truly is the City of Angeles. But, what if you could glide from one powerhouse city to another in less than an hour? What if you could step onto a train in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles and get off just a few blocks from the beautiful beaches of another sensational city? In just a few short months, on May 20th, the Expo Line extension will do just that, and bring LA locals into the heart of Santa Monica.
This train line, running directly from Downtown Los Angeles to Downtown Santa Monica, will add seven stops between its current terminus and its Santa Monica stop at Colorado and Fourth Street. The line will arrive at its last stop in just 45 minutes. When the Expo line opens in May, it will be the first passenger train to connect Los Angeles and Santa Monica since the Pacific Electric red car system of 1953.
A chance to relive history, this train line offers passengers the unique ability to experience what it was like for their grandparents to jump on the red car and go to the ocean. Visit Los Angeles for a morning of shopping or sightseeing and enjoy the city’s urban vibe before jumping onto the “Subway to the Sea” for this exciting adventure and ‘rite of passage’!
