Public Art Project Filling MacArthur Park Lake

A public art project filling MacArthur Park Lake with big, brightly colored beach balls kicked off this weekend. It is estimated that there will be 2,500 of these hand-painted, inflatable balls floating around the park’s waters by tomorrow. The LA-based arts nonprofit, Portraits of Hope, traditional to all their projects, had many schools, hospitals and social service and community groups participate in their theme of public art, community engagement, creative therapy and teamwork to paint the colorful spheres. The goal Portraits of Hope is undertaking is to draw attention to the lake itself and hopefully to make it a community destination again. The art exhibition will remain in the lake for about four weeks.
