In the morning of Friday December 7th, 2018, as the Little Beast was on a mission to deliver canned food donations for KTLA’s “Take 5 To Care” event at our local Stater Bros in Pasadena, it caught the eyes of a movie maker.
They were in the process of filming “The Banker,” a true story about the first two African American bankers in the United States. The film is set in the 1950’s, and it’s about real estate and banking entrepreneurs Joe Morris, played by Samuel L. Jackson, and Bernard Garrett, played by Anthony Mackie. So, if you’ve ever spotted our Litte Beast, you KNOW it was absolutely perfect for the part!
Morris and Garret hire a white man to act as owner of their company, while they pretend to be “the help.” They were real estate investors, and the idea was to buy banks in order to work on the other side of real estate, and be able to help African Americans who were being discriminated against by white bankers.
“The Banker” It is scheduled for a limited release on March 6, 2020, and will be released for digital streaming on March 20, 2020, by Apple TV+. Click here to watch the full trailer.
