Deep in the woods of Chesterfield, Massachusetts, American Pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, found an old, beat-up 1964 International Harvester Metro van covered in rust. With the help of his son, the owner of the van, Phil, recovered it from under some dirt and it had remained on trailer ever since. Phil was unsure of it’s value, but knew the cartoon and the name Aerosmith painted on the side of the van, had to mean something, so he contacted the TV show to have them come and check it out.
They had a good feeling this vehicle might have, at some point, been used by the famous rock band Aerosmith. So, the show contacted founding band member Ray Tabano, who was the guitarist for Aerosmith when it was first formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1970. Much to everyone’s surprise, this old 1964 International Harvester Metro van had belonged to none other than the famous rock band .
At the beginning of their birth as a band, this piece of rock and roll history was pretty much their home. “It was like our dressing room, you know, it was like a rolling hotel,” Tabano said in the episode. He also states that they hadn’t been in that van for about 40 years.
After piecing together all of the van’s spectacular history, the owner, Phil, was still interested in selling it. Wolfe and Fritz bought this rust covered pot of gold for a total amount of $25,000 dollars.
