Halloween During a Pandemic- Guidelines for Your County

Halloween is by far one of the most favorite holidays of the year. We think it’s in part because it kicks off the holiday season at the end of every year. While this year, this, and almost every holiday, must be a little different, there are easy safety guidelines we can follow to still have a great time.

Now that October is finally here, it’s time to get really get informed about what we can and can’t do. Many associations, like The Halloween and Costume Association, and the Hershey Company, have joined forces to create the perfect plan on the best possible ways to safely celebrate Halloween, all depending on the risk level in your county (yellow, orange, or red). The best part? They follow all of the CDC regulations, so everyone can be assured they are keeping safe.

For example, if you live in a yellow zone, they recommend trick-or-treating in your neighborhood and only at homes that have safety measures in place, like them throwing the candy from at least 6 feet away. You can also set up outside and have trick-or-treaters come by and pick up their treat. Another one of our favorite ideas is having a costume parade with your neighborhood and/or family. Don’t forget to include your fur babies!

If you live in the orange counties, they suggest reverse trick-or-treating, where you dress up and hang out in your front yard while neighbors or family come by and drop off candy in buckets on the curb, or trick-or-treat drive-ups, where you visit family, neighbors, or friends in your costumes and deliver some yummy treats. Our favorite idea is the Neighborhood Pub Crawl, where hosts can set up a mixer and adults can hop to each neighbor for a nice drink.

For red counties, some ideas they provided include a neighborhood or family Zoom costume contest, a Netflix watch party, and a costume dinner with the fam where each person needs to dress up, and, become their character! They also recommend a scavenger hunt with candies and prizes, and a Halloween piñata.
