We are excited to announce that we are partnering with the Habitat for Humanity organization on building The Desiderio Homes in Pasadena. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit that helps build homes to give families the opportunity to build long-term financial security and break the cycle of poverty. The project is being built on the former Desiderio Army Reserve Center, a total of 5.1 acres of land located at 655 Westminster Drive in west Pasadena, under the Colorado Street Bridge. In 2012 they launched a campaign to raise almost $2.2 million toward the Desiderio Homes, which will be a nine-unit bungalow court to be built on 1.9 acres of the sight under the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena. As part of the project The National Park Service will be adding a 3.87 acre city park in the area close to Habitat for Humanity’s project of the Desiderio Homes. Pasadena Star news stated that “the environmental report concluded that the project would have significant cultural and transportation impacts on the region [with an] increase in traffic on Westminster Drive by more than 50 percent.” On October 27th, 2014 City Council 27 approved the final environmental impact report for the $2.41 million project and approved a $502,000 contract with Interior Demolition, Inc. to begin demolition of the existing buildings on the site in January. Town Square is thrilled to be able to be working with Habitat for Humanity on this project this year. In the coming months we will be helping build on the site base. Check back for updates as the project moves forward.
