Chaise Lounge From Trash to Treasure

Twenty years ago I bought my first investment property, (long before anyone started using the term “flip”).  It was a dilapidated 1910 Craftsman home in the heart of Pasadena’s Bungalow Heaven.  Hanging in the rafters of the detached garage, which was covered in overgrowth, I found an abandoned chaise lounge.  Something about it called out to me.

Over the past 20 years, and through about four homes that I’ve lived in, I’ve carried that lounger and stored it with the intention of either using it someday, or making another to pair it with.  Well, it slowly disintegrated and started to fall apart.  The rope seating weathered away.  Behind my garage for years, it was waiting for attention.  And over time, it was always in the back of my mind, that I wanted to take it apart, make a pattern from each of it’s pieces, and recreate it (just like the one that was probably made in the early 1900’s).

Well, finally, here is the offspring!!!  I couldn’t be more excited!  When I hired my contractor to rebuild my garden shed recently, I showed him the chaise and told him of my idea.  I asked him if he’d be interested in tackling this project.  He did it!!!  So thrilled with the outcome, I’ve asked him to make another.

Seeing this chaise lounge sitting in my yard is a real full-circle experience.  And to be able to sit and enjoy it in my yard on Labor Day, makes the holiday so special.  I can’t wait to share it with friends and family.
